Weight loss consultations

Weight management can be complex and influenced by medical, lifestyle and genetic factors. A consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your health history, current concerns and any challenges you may be experiencing.

Risks and possible complications are set out further down this page and we ask that you read them before booking.

Who it may suit

People who would like a considered, medically informed conversation about weight and health, including those who have tried other approaches without the outcome they hoped for. Suitability for any particular option is assessed individually.

What to expect

The appointment is a conversation. We review your health history, medications, previous approaches, lifestyle and goals, and may take measurements or arrange pathology where appropriate. Together we look at realistic options and agree on a plan, with review appointments to see how things are going.

Preparation and downtime

Please bring a list of your current medications and supplements, and any recent blood test results. The consultation itself does not involve a recovery period. If a treatment is recommended, any downtime it involves is explained to you before you decide.

Risks and possible complications

Weight management is medical treatment and it carries risks, which we would rather you know about from the outset. Losing weight, particularly rapidly, can cause tiredness, headaches, feeling cold, changes in bowel habit, hair thinning, gallstones, loss of muscle as well as fat, and nutritional deficiencies. Some people find that changing how they eat affects their mood or their relationship with food, and support is available if that happens. Results vary a great deal between individuals, some people do not respond, and weight is commonly regained if treatment or the changes you have made stop. Ongoing review, and often blood tests, are part of the process rather than an optional extra. If a prescription medicine forms part of your plan, Australian advertising rules mean it cannot be named or described on this page, so its specific side effects, cautions and monitoring requirements are explained to you in person, and in the written product information you are given, before you decide anything. Some options are not suitable in pregnancy or breastfeeding, or alongside certain medical conditions and medicines. Josie will go through all of this with you, and you are welcome to call the clinic on (02) 9331 7228 with any questions.

Please note

Any medicines that may be discussed are prescription only. Australian advertising rules mean they cannot be named or described here, so they are only discussed with you in person where clinically appropriate. An in-person consultation is required. Results may vary from person to person. Potential risks, benefits and suitability are discussed with you before any treatment is provided.
