Cosmetic Nurse, Darlinghurst

I'm a registered nurse and cosmetic injector based in Darlinghurst, Sydney. I've been injecting since 2018, and I run Josie Aesthetics as a solo practice inside Holdsworth House Medical Practice on College Street.

Before aesthetics I worked alongside cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive breast cancer surgeons. It's an unusual route into injecting, and it shapes how I practise. I think about faces in terms of layers and structures rather than areas on a chart, and I'm more careful than most about where a needle goes.

Since 2022 I've worked as a Clinical Nurse Trainer with Fresh Clinics, teaching nurses and doctors across Australia in facial anatomy, patient assessment and injectable technique.

Teaching changes your own practice. It's difficult to stand in front of a room of clinicians explaining why a particular approach is safer, and then cut corners yourself on a Thursday afternoon. It also means I spend a great deal of time on complications — how to recognise them early and how to manage them. That's the part of this work patients rarely think to ask about, and the part that matters most on the rare occasion something goes wrong.

How a consultation works

Every appointment begins with a full-face assessment. We talk about what you've noticed, what's bothering you, and what's actually causing it — which is often not what people expect.

I'll tell you what I think is appropriate, what I don't think is, and where the realistic limits sit. You're never committed to treatment on the day. I'd genuinely rather you left having thought about it than agreed to something in the room.

I say no reasonably often — sometimes because a treatment won't achieve what someone is hoping for, sometimes because the timing is wrong, and sometimes because what's being asked for isn't in the person's interest. If you've been told yes everywhere else, that's worth knowing about me in advance.

A note on what I can and can't tell you here

You'll notice this website doesn't name products, show before-and-after photographs, or publish patient reviews. That isn't coyness. Advertising rules for registered health practitioners in Australia restrict all three, for reasons I think are largely sound — this is medicine, and it shouldn't be sold the way skincare is.

It does mean the internet is a poor place to research injectables, and that clinics willing to ignore those rules will always look more informative than those of us who don't. The conversation we have in the room isn't subject to the same limits. Bring your questions there.
