Volume

Changes in facial volume happen gradually and are influenced by bone, fat, muscle and skin all changing over time. A consultation is an opportunity to talk through what you are noticing and whether anything can or should be done.

Risks and possible complications are set out further down this page and we ask that you read them before booking.

Who it may suit

People who feel their face looks tired, flat or hollow in certain areas, and who would like a considered assessment rather than a specific product. Suitability is assessed individually at consultation.

What to expect

We discuss your concerns, medical history and goals, and I assess your face in proportion and in movement. I explain which options may be relevant, what each involves, and what it cannot do. Nothing proceeds without a clear plan and your informed consent.

Preparation and downtime

Let me know about any medications, supplements, dental work or recent illness. Downtime depends on what is agreed at consultation and is explained to you in advance.

Risks and possible complications

Restoring facial volume is a medical treatment and it carries real risks, including some that are uncommon but serious, and we would rather you understand them before you come in. Redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising and small marks at the treated points are expected, and swelling can take one to two weeks to fully settle, so it is worth planning around social or work commitments. Less commonly you may notice lumps, firmness or slight unevenness, asymmetry, a result that is more or less than you hoped for, product sitting more superficially than intended, or prolonged swelling. Infection is uncommon but possible, and delayed swelling or tender lumps can appear weeks to months later, sometimes triggered by illness, dental work or vaccination. Any warmth, spreading redness, increasing pain or discharge should be reported to us promptly. The most serious risk is injury to a blood vessel. If a vessel is blocked, the blood supply to the skin can be interrupted, which can cause tissue damage and scarring, and in very rare cases loss of vision. This is why an in-person assessment, careful technique and an ability to manage complications matter, and why you are given clear instructions on what to watch for and how to reach us urgently. Sudden severe pain, blanching or mottling of the skin, or any change in vision needs immediate attention. Results are not permanent and vary considerably from person to person. Not everyone is suitable, and treatment is generally avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding, where there is active infection or inflammation in the area, and alongside certain autoimmune conditions or medicines that increase bleeding. Because the options may involve prescription medicines or medical devices that Australian law does not allow us to name here, the specific risks, expected recovery and alternatives for whatever suits you are explained to you in person, and in the written information you are given, before you consent. You are welcome to call the clinic on (02) 9331 7228 with any questions.

Please note

Treatments used to address facial volume may involve prescription medicines or medical devices which by law cannot be named or described here; these are only discussed with you in person. An in-person consultation is required before any treatment. Results may vary from person to person. Potential risks, benefits and suitability are discussed with you before any treatment is provided.
